TOMFOOLERY:
The Wicked Words and
Mischievous Lyrics of Tom Lehrer

Book by Cameron Macintosh and Robin Ray
Directed by Jon Rosen
Choreography by Gary Stanford, Jr.
May 25 - June 16, 2019

Tom Lehrer epitomized the era of satirical humor in the 1950s and 1960s, writing songs which were wickedly naughty yet not illegal by today's standards in any way. What is most amazing about Lehrer's music and humor is how timeless it has remained, dealing with subjects such as religion, love and nuclear weapons without in any way becming dated. Turned into a musical revue by the producing genius behind Cats and Phantom of the Opera, Cameron Macintosh, Tomfoolery still is one of the most bitingly hilarious two hours of music you will ever hear. A cast of four talented local actors will sing and act out Tom's music and send you home from San Francisco's Shelton Theater with a smile on your face and at least a couple of thoughts rattling around in your brain. Tom may have decided to retire from songwriting (as is rumored) "when Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize," but his humor remains a legacy for all of us today.

Our Friday night performances will be special "sing-along" performances in which the audience will be invited to sing along with the cast of the show for some of the musical numbers (but not all of them). Lyric sheets will be available for those who do not remember the lyrics. The sing-along shows that we did last year were terrific fun for the cast members and the audience.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE
Book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar
Music and Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison
Directed and Choreographed by Gary Ferguson
Music Direction by Juanita Harris
June 16 - July 31, 2019

Gangsters-turned-pastry-chefs, a seductive but bumbling Latin lothario, and a well-oiled Chaperone will have you roaring like it was still the 1920s! One of the funniest shows to hit Broadway in the past few decades, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is a valentine to musicals of the early 1900s, taking comic aim at shows of the modern era as well as those of days gone by.

A winner of five Tony Awards (including Best Book and Best Score), this "musical within a musical" features The Man In Chair (his only name) who, cloistered in his apartment, spends his time listening to the classic shows of the Jazz Age. When he invites the audience to listen along with him to a vinyl recording of his favorite musical comedy, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE comes to glorious life on stage inside his apartment. The twists and turns and accompanying hilarity make for a delightful evening of theater.
